Safety check Questions.

1- Open bonnet and identify where engine oil is and how would you check it has a sufficient enough amount.

A- Identify oil (centre of engine) and you would use dipstick (yellow ring) to check level of oil against min/max level.

2- Show me where brake fluid is and how would you check it has a sufficient amount?

A- Brake fluid under bonnet infront of steering wheel, there is a min/max level on brake fluid container.

3- Show me where engine coolant is and how would you check it has a sufficient amount?

A- Engine coolant located at front of engine, there is a min/max level on coolant container.

4- Show me where windscreen washer is and how would you check it has a sufficient amount?

A- Windscreen washer located at bottom right corner of engine next to coolant and washer container can be filled right to the top.

5- Show me/explain how you would check power assisted steering is working before start of journey?

A- If steering is heavy, system may not be working properly, apply gentle pressure on wheel when engine is on to see if steering is light or turn wheel just after moving off and look for same outcome.

6- Show how would you check parking brake(handbrake) for excessive wear?

A- Apply footbrake then take handbrake off then on and make sure it doesn't feel loose or at end of working travel.

7- Show how you would check horn is working properly.

A- Check by pressing horn, making sure you are off-road.

8- Show how you would check direction indicators are working?

A- Apply indicators or hazards and check they are working by walking round car.

9- Tell me how you would check brake lights are working.

A- Press pedal and make use of reflections in windows or garage doors, or ask someone to help.

10-Tell me how you would check brakes are working before your journey.

A- Brakes should not feel spongy or slack and should be tested as you pull away, also car shouldn't pull to one side when pressed.

11-Show me how you would check headlights and tail lights are working.

A- Turn on lights and ignition and walk round car.

12-Tell me where you would find information for tyre pressures and how pressures should be checked.

A- Manufacturers guide, and use a reliable pressure gauge to check and adjust pressure when tyres are cold, not forgetting the spare. remember to re-fit valve afterwards.

13-Tell me how you would check the tyres to ensure there is a safe enough tread.

A- Make sure there are no cuts or bulges in tyre and that tyre tread is 1.6mm across centre 3/4 of whole tyre. There is a small mark on the tyre to show when tread is low.

14-Tell me how you would make sure head restraint is properly adjusted.

A- Head restraint should be adjusted so that rigid part of restraint is at least as high as top of ears and is comfortably close to head.

15-Show me how you clean the windscreen using washers and wipers.

A- Pull back wiper stick to dispense water and wipers will come on automatically for 3 or more times.

16-Show me how you would set demister controls to clear all windows.

A- For front and side windows, i would adjust temperature, fan and air direction and for rear window i would use button above these controls.

17-Show me how you would switch on the rear fog lights and explain when you would use them.

A- Turn on headlights then press switch on left of headlight dial to turn on fog lights. they would be used in fog and very heavy rain or snow.

18-Tell me how you would know if there was a problem with the anti-lock braking system(abs).

A- If there is a fault with anti-lock braking system(abs) then the ABS light would come on.

19-Show me how you would switch your headlights from dipped beam to main beam and explain how you would know this from inside the car.

A- Turn on  headlights and push indicator stock forwards to put main beam on, you would know it's on from inside the car by the blue light next to the speedo.

43 out of a possible 50

Your hazard perception pass mark is:-

44 out of a possible 75

you will need both parts of you licence in order to take this test.

Practical Test info:

Your Practical test costs £62.00

This will last for 40 minutes

You will be ask to do an eyesight test

you will be asked two safety questions which you will find above

It will consist or 1 manoeuvre

A 10 minute independant driving excercise,

this means the examiner gives you a

multiple of directions to follow and/or

ask to follow road markings/signs for

a certain area.

You are allowed 15 minor mistakes and

NO major mistakes.

you will need both parts of your licence to take your test.
